PRCA Comments- end of the semester

Yes, I loved Hal too! I actually loved almost all of the speakers we had this semester. They were all very unique and actually held my attention, which can be challenging! I enjoyed our class time together as well, the weekly discussions kept me up to date with what was going on in the world of social media, and I now how important that is in the public relations world.

I couldn’t agree more about Twitter, I am not a big fan of Twitter personally. I wish I was, but I just cannot wrap my head around it. Even more so I just can’t make myself want to read a feed that is updated that often. Twitter overwhelms me, but I will say it is a great source to stay connected with news and media coverage.

End of the semester

This was the first “hybrid” class I’ve ever taken so it was a bit of a struggle. Online classes require much more organization and upkeep than I prepared for, to be completely honest. The weekly discussions, reports, and blog posts were the death of me. I can’t tell you how many Saturday mornings I would wake up and it would hit me that the deadline passed me by yet again! But towards the end of the semester I got a better handle on things. Pretty much I would have done anything if they would have been every other week instead of weekly. Not only because of my forgetfulness, but because I found I was repeating myself over and over and over again in my weekly reports. I was even extremely lucky to have Red Bull as my client, who has an overwhelming presence on social media to follow, and I was still repeating myself. I can’t imagine how you guys with clients like Holiday Inn handled those weekly reports! I actually did enjoy writing the blogs, and reading the blogs. I’ve never blogged before, and I didn’t hate it.

I learned the effects social media can have if used effectively. I also learned how to take advantage of other outlets of social media like LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+. Prior to this class I was solely on Facebook and Instagram. It would have been fun for me if Instagram would have been more involved, since I believe many of our clients have them. I’m addicted, and it appears they continue to become a bigger and bigger presence on social media for big brands such as the ones our class represented. Good luck to all that are graduating! One more semester and counting for this chick! : )

I love how much you love this show. I was also pretty obsessed with this series myself, and I’m pretty devastated it is over… I can’t believe it. Maybe I have found someone as broken hearted as I am? The show definitely recieved the recognition it deserved and I am most thankful for the series ending with all questions answered. If they would have left it with a cliff hanger I would have written personal hate letters to those crazy talented writers myself!

What are you thankful for?

I have so many things, people, and opportunity in my life to be thankful for I am slightly overwhelmed to only share ten. So just to set things straight these ten things are in no significant order…

1) I have to say my precious family first and foremost. If my life were a sitcom it would be a remix of Modern Family and I love it this way, normal is boring right? I have immediate family all over the world which makes it extremely special when we’re all together for holidays like Thanksgiving. Thankful is the understatement of the year when it comes to my family. I could not live without their unconditional support (even though I know they want to kill me sometimes), love, and faith they’ve always had for me and I will always have for them. 2) PIZZA. It is the one thing that can always put me in a good mood, and for that I am extremely thankful. The real question has to be, who isn’t thankful for pizza? 3) My friends are the reason why I am who I am today, and they are constantly molding me into the person I want to become. I have no idea what I have done to deserve such positive, hilarious, and uplifting people in my life but for them I am crazy thankful. If it weren’t for them I’m not sure where I’d be… scares me to think about. 4) I am thankful for my faith. I have never been extremely religious and I definitely do not attend church every Sunday, but I do consider myself a very spiritual person. I wasn’t raised to be Baptist or Catholic or Presbyterian; my parents simply considered themselves Christian but they never forced their religious views onto me. For that I am thankful because it has allowed me to figure things out for myself and to grow up with an open-mindedness to never judge another person for their spiritual beliefs or non-beliefs.

5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…) To wrap this up, I am thankful for warm weather, American Horror Story, Alabama football, my little brother, and my bed. These things all play significant roles in my life. They get me from A to B, and help me escape the stress and chaos of the thing I am currently most of all thankful for… GRADUATING in the spring.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

Shopping with your phone

I am one hundred percent a part of the majority… I bring my phone everywhere, even when I go shopping. My reasoning for having my phone while shopping might differ a bit from others. The article showed that the majority of people using their smart phones in stores are using them to compare prices or are browsing social media. Where as when I am in a grocery store I bring my phone in case I have to call a friend and ask where to find garlic or ask what an ingredient is in a recipe I might be attempting to cook that night. I am very incapable in the kitchen and grocery stores give me anxiety so usually my phone is my outlet; I rely on the “phone a friend” lifeline while shopping.

I do not have any in-store apps on my phone but I have played with a few on my friend’s phones and they seem to be very helpful. I think I am going to download some in the near future because I do think they could help with budgeting and saving money.

Red Bull surprisingly does not have an “in store” app to my knowledge, because they are a brand revolving around one product. But I think they could potentially become a part of other in-store apps so people could see if they offer Red Bull in the store of their choice and see if they are offering and deals or discounts at that time. I can’t imagine any other ways they could benefit because they are one product with set pricing.

PRCA 3334 Comments- Moms on social media

http://ravenreneaeblog.wordpress.com/2013/11/04/moms-on-social-media/comment-page-1/#comment-122

I think Coke targeting moms by launching a campaign showcasing their healthier drink options would be a perfect way to reach these moms on social media. Coke has always been so clever and appealing to many different audiences I don’t think they would have a problem stealing the attentions of these moms on social media with the appropriate campaign.

I definitely think Burger King could benefit from targeting these mom’s because then they will be more inclined to bring their children to BK. Even though young children are the ones I see Burger King and McDonalds appealing to; adults eat a lot of fast food as well and if they put together a social media campaign to reach these moms I think it would increase the whole family’s likeliness to eat at Burger King more often.

Moms on social media

I was really surprised to read about the number of moms with young children actively using social media because I did not think they would have the time! Once I read this article it made more sense to me that they use social media for different reasons than our generation. I’m sure a hand full of moms are using social media for the reasons we do, but the majority of them are users looking for deals, coupons, or gathering news.

However it makes perfect sense that moms with young children are the ones using their mobile devices to shop rather more than most because of how much more convenient it makes the process shopping. After reading over the statistics in this article I think it is very smart for the appropriate brands and companies to target moms through social media since they are such active users.

In my client’s case, I have never come across any kind of branding or material aimed at moms or families in particular. Red Bull isn’t just an energy drink it is primarily a utility drink to be taken against mental or physical weariness or exhaustion, which is why I think Red Bull could really benefit from targeting these moms. Red Bull helps to cope with the challenges of every day life, which includes work, leisure, and sports. Even though the three main stereotypes are the athlete, the worker, and the clubber doesn’t mean Red Bull couldn’t address another target audience with a clever social media campaign; since that is their bread and butter.

PRCA 3334 Comments- Halloween

I adore Marilyn!! I bet that was precious. I sadly wouldn’t let my mom dress me up as anything other than something terrifying when I was little. But one year on my dad’s birthday my mom and I dressed up as Marilyn imitating her famous “Happy Birthday” song to JFK in Madison Square Garden and video tapped it and sent it to my dad… it was pretty priceless! Have a happy halloween!

Julia Roberts has always been my favorite so naturally Tinker Bell is also on of my all time favorite characters!! I’m sure you were a precious Tinker Bell. You’re so right about this idea appealing to the whole family, I think it’s a great way for companies to spread their brand name while appealing to all different ages and demographics.

Happy Halloween

My favorite costume from childhood has to be a vampire. Only because that is the ONLY thing I ever wanted to dress up as for Halloween since I could walk… so my mom tells me. In my younger glory days she always tried to dress me up as Cinderella or Snow White but I was not having that. Fangs and blood were more my style. Let’s just say I have perfected the vampire costume and cannot wait for tomorrow night!

I think the idea of supplying templates for fans to use when carving pumpkins is genius. Any act of promoting school spirit is hoped for because you always want that buzz to continue and to spread throughout the community. This act in particular is seasonal, festive, creative, and social so you can’t go wrong. College students go all out celebrating Halloween and carving pumpkins has been a tradition ever since I can remember. From a public relations point of view, I think it is solely a proactive way to remain in the forefront of the community’s mind. These students will use the stencils and carve their pumpkins not only for their neighbors to see but everybody knows they will immediately take pictures of their “art work” and share them on social media for the world to see.

Depending on the logos other companies use for their stencil ideas, I think it has a lot of potential to be a success. I see major brand names such as Red Bull, Coke, and Monster being able to successfully create a stencil original enough for their customer base to want to carve it into a pumpkin. I can’t see fast food companies being as successful, but you never know! I know there are some dedicated McDonalds and Taco Bell fans out there.
